This type of report is used to provide more detail about the displayed measures that have been “Sliced” by an event. It is similar to the event-based table report, but it shows a chronological time lapse of the event periods. Moments on the event periods can be configured to show the attribute or measure values associated with the event. This chart is mostly used to show a timeline of downtime or product run events.
This chart is highly flexible and has many features. As such we will discuss each feature in the following sub-sections.
An Event Based Timeline chart consists of the following groups:
General
The General tab is used to define the general layout of a table as well as the default period display and which indicators to display by default. The General tab consists of Chart, Title, and Period.
Chart
Under the Chart section we have the following properties:
|
This sets the background area that surrounds the table’s color. The default is the “Windows” theme color. |
|
This sets the cell border colors. The default is the “Border” theme color. |
|
This sets the measure rows’ font size. The default is 12. |
|
This sets the padding to the left of the table. The default is 0. |
|
This sets the padding to the right of the table. The default is 0. |
|
This sets the padding to the top of the table. The default is 0. |
|
This sets the padding to the top of the table. The default is 0. |
The figure below shows the effect of updating the above properties for an Event Based Timeline Chart. The properties are annotated to demonstrate the effect of each of the properties on the chart.
Title
Refer to the general “Title” chart properties section for more information.
Period
Refer to the general “Period” chart properties section for more information.
Sections
Sections are used to group related information together. The Sections tab is used to configure these sections. Only one section can be added for this Chart type. Sections can be added, removed and reordered in the Sections tab. Sections have the following properties:
|
This sets the section’s title text. |
|
This sets the caption text that is 60% of the size of the main title’s font. This text is displayed below the title. |
|
This specifies if a section is collapsed by default. The section can still be expanded/collapsed by clicking the on the title. |
|
This specifies if a section is stacked directly on top of another section, or if a space is inserted between sections. |
|
This sets the background color of the section’s title cell. |
Events
Events can be added to a section by dragging it from the Model View onto a section. All the attributes associated with the event will be automatically under the event. If attributes are added to the event later, these attributes can be added to the chart by manually dragging them under the relative event. Event layout configuration on the chart are defined by the following sections:
General
The General section is used to set the title of the event’s row, set the identifier properties as well as if the row uses bold text or if the row is italicized. The default title for the row is set to show the index as the identifier and can be overwritten.
Timeline
The color definition of the timeline can be change to either use a static color or a color based on the attribute value selected. Specific attributes can be used as a “Source” of the Timeline’s bar colors. This can be changed by dragging the attribute from the Model view under the Timeline property.
A base color can also be supplied if attribute colors are not being applied to the Timeline.
Attributes
Attributes associated to an event can be added to an event in a section by dragging it from the Model View on to the event. The moment layout on the chart are defined by the number of attributes added to the event:
General
The General section is used to set the title of the attribute to be displayed. The default title for the row is set to the attribute’s name and can be overwritten.
Measure
Measures that have been “sliced” by an event can be added to the event in the events section. Measure layout configuration on the chart is defined by the following sections:
General
The General section is used to set the title of the moment of the measure value to be displayed. The default is the name of the measure value to be displayed, this can be overwritten.
UI Interaction
Additional functionality available in a Table report includes:
|
Clicking an individual bar in the timeline will open a Drilldown overlay providing details of that measure value (calculation inputs, comments and versions). |
