Triggers are used to start and end event periods.
Events can be triggered automatically based on data from a data source. Events can also be created manually via an Event Period Form.
If you require your event to be triggered (started and stopped) manually by someone capturing data in an Event Period Form, then leave the Trigger Configuration blank. Flow will understand this to mean that this is a manually triggered event
An Event Period Form can be used to create new event periods or edit existing event periods. Even when an Event is triggered automatically, an Event Period Form can be used to manually insert or edit event periods.
Event triggers may created by right-clicking in the "Triggers" tab in the Event Editor. Automatically triggered Events can be triggered in the following ways:
Calendar Trigger |
Make use of an interval type (e.g. shift) as defined in one of the Calendars to trigger the start or end of a period. Create a Calendar trigger using the right-click menu item or by dragging a Calendar from the Toolbox into the Trigger section. |
Retrieved Trigger |
Makes use of a tag or query from a data source to trigger the start or end of a period. For Retrieved triggers, more than one data source tag or query can be added as a trigger to start or end a period. This means that different data sources could be queried to determine when a period starts or ends. Create a Retrieved Trigger by dragging a tag (or data source item) from a Data Source Namespace in the Integration tab. Depending on the Data Source, different Event retrieval properties will need to be provided. |
If the Event is deployed at this point, you will be able to verify that it is retrieving its triggers by selecting the “chart” button.
Note that if no End Trigger is configured, Flow will automatically end an “open” event period when it receives a new Start Trigger.
